The following video shows how to assemble the generator mounting kit. When mounting the turbine blades, make sure they furl away from the generator. This may look backwards to anyone familiar with air plane propellers. Wind turbine blades are driven by the air instead of driving the air like propellers. Mount as shown in the image below. We suggest you coat the generator shaft and threads with an anti seize compound such as Never Seez. Also paint the outside of the shaft bushings to prevent corrosion. On the MW-1kd 24V paint the shaft behind the threads and apply the compound to the threads. White lithium grease may also be used in place of Never Seez. Be sure to tighten all the hardware on the generator and blades! The blade hub should be torqued to the generator shaft with 65 foot pounds but not over 88 foot pounds of torque. Reduce torque by 10% if lubricant is used on threads. Watch this video to see the arbor nut being torqued. Here is an example of one way to stop the generator from winding the lead wires. The parts can be purchased for a few dollars at any hardware store. They consist of a 20" piece of 1/8" cable. a 14" piece of 3/16" neoprene tube, a 2" hose clamp, and 2 1/8" cable clamps. The parts in the next video are not included in the kit! |
